Dec 17, 2018Sophie” Morak, 90, of Whitaker Road, passed away Wednesday morning, December 12, 2018 at Lewis County General Hospital.In keeping with Sophie’s wishes, there will be a graveside service in the spring in Martinsburg Cemetery with Rev. Jay Seymour, Pastor of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, officiating. There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. Contributions may be made to the Martinsburg Fire Department P.O. Box 143 Martinsburg, NY 13404.She is survived by her four children, Paul E. Morak of Lowville, Daniel J. (Colleen) Morak of Lowville, Randy D. (Roxanne) Morak of Martinsburg, Joann (Jerry) Gorczyca of Glenfield; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and one on the way; a sister-in-law, Winifred Sweredoski of Watertown and DelRay Beach, FL; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by a great grandson, Tanner J. Marra; eight brothers, Stanley, Joseph, Thomas, Theodore, Alfred, John, Walter, and Mitchell Sweredoski.Sophie was born on December 23, 1927 in the town of Harrisburg, NY, a daughter of the late Stephen and Anna Stonskowna Sweredoski and graduated from Lowville Academy in 1945. Together with her former husband, Edward Morak, they owned and operated a dairy farm on Rt. 26 in Martinsburg from 1947-1975. She owned and operated Zoshia’s Sub Shop in Lowville for several years and later owned and operated Hilltop Diner in Martinsburg from 1982-1994 upon retirement.She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville. She was a member of Singing Waters Senior Citizens, Lowville and a member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 Ladies Auxiliary, Lowville. She was also a member of the Lewis County General Hospital Auxiliary.Sophie enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, and refurnishing furniture. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and her great-great grandchildren.Condolences may be shared with the family a...
